BIOGRAPHY
Lois M. Shell, 91, of Dover passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023 in the Walnut Hills Retirement Community.
Born July 13, 1931 in Walnut Creek, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Selma (Hershberger) Gerber. Lois was also preceded in death by her husband, C. William “Bill” Shell on December 31, 2021; son, Gerald “Jerry” Shell; brother, Edison Gerber and sister, Neva Grosenbacher.
In her younger years, Lois was the owner of the Plain N Fancy Beauty Shop, the first beauty shop opened in Walnut Creek, Ohio. After moving to Dover, she also co-owned and operated the S & S Car Wash in Dover and the B & L Drive Thru in Sugarcreek with her husband, Bill. As a beautician, she worked in several beauty shops in Dover while continuously selling Viviane Woodard Cosmetics. She also worked in the gift shop at The Ernest Warther Museum for many years. A faithful member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover, Lois enjoyed singing in the choir and serving on the Sanctuary Committee. She loved traveling with her husband and family, was a good seamstress, and enjoyed following every marching band/concert band her children and grandchildren were involved in.
Lois is survived by her children, Brad (Barbara) Shell of Kensington, Sheila (Van) Harmon of Dover, Lezlie Shell of Texas, Lesa (Gary) Plantz of New York; grandchildren, Dustin (Stephanie) Shell, Jordan (Priscilla) Harmon, Nick (Becca) Shell, Jeremy (Kristen) Harmon, Corrie Lanzer, Matthew Ashbocker and Elizabeth (Eric) Milsap and nine great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank her special church friend, Barb Domer, who spent many hours with her the last few months and a true neighbor, Bob Berndt.
